Example 1: ubuntu 14 apache2 graceful restart

# Restart Apache 2 server on Linux/Unix
sudo service apache2 restart

# Start Apache 2 server on Linux/Unix
sudo service apache2 start

# Stop Apache 2 server on Linux/Unix
sudo service apache2 stop

Example 3: how to kill apache process in linux

sudo netstat -nap | grep :80
You’ll see apache2 and there is 3–4 digit numbers before it, mine is 980
sudo kill [number]

Example 4: restart apache

sudo systemctl restart apache2
# or
sudo service apache2 restart

Example 5: apache2 reload

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
