How do you check what version of SQL Server for a database using TSQL?

SELECT @@VERSION

Try

SELECT @@VERSION

or for SQL Server 2000 and above the following is easier to parse :)

SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion')
     , SERVERPROPERTY('productlevel')
     , SERVERPROPERTY('edition')
