Example 1: kill app at port

#To list any process listening to the port 8080:
lsof -i:8080

#To kill any process listening to the port 8080:
kill $(lsof -t -i:8080)

#or more violently:
kill -9 $(lsof -t -i:8080)

Example 2: kill port in mac

npx kill-port 8080

Example 3: cmd kill process on port

## check and kill used "ports"
netstat -ano | findstr :8080
taskkill /PID <yourid> /F

Example 4: windows kill port

netstat -ano | findstr :3001
taskkill /PID <yourid> /F

Example 5: kill process running on port in windows

netstat -ano | findstr :8080
taskkill /PID <yourid> /F

Kill Process in Windows

Step 1:

Open up cmd.exe (note: you may need to run it as an administrator, but this isn't always necessary), then run the below command:

netstat -ano | findstr :PORT_NUMBER

(Replace PORT_NUMBER with the port number you want, but keep the colon)



The area circled in red shows the PID (process identifier). Locate the PID of the process that's using the port you want.

Step 2:

Next, run the following command:

taskkill /PID PORT_NUMBER /F
