Removing duplicates from a String in Java

Try this simple solution:

public String removeDuplicates(String input){
    String result = "";
    for (int i = 0; i < input.length(); i++) {
        if(!result.contains(String.valueOf(input.charAt(i)))) {
            result += String.valueOf(input.charAt(i));
        }
    }
    return result;
}

Using Stream makes it easy.

noDuplicates = Arrays.asList(myString.split(""))
                     .stream()
                     .distinct()
                     .collect(Collectors.joining());

I would use the help of LinkedHashSet. Removes dups (as we are using a Set, maintains the order as we are using linked list impl). This is kind of a dirty solution. there might be even a better way.

String s="aabbccdef";
Set<Character> set=new LinkedHashSet<Character>();
for(char c:s.toCharArray())
{
    set.add(Character.valueOf(c));
}

Convert the string to an array of char, and store it in a LinkedHashSet. That will preserve your ordering, and remove duplicates. Something like:

String string = "aabbccdefatafaz";

char[] chars = string.toCharArray();
Set<Character> charSet = new LinkedHashSet<Character>();
for (char c : chars) {
    charSet.add(c);
}

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
for (Character character : charSet) {
    sb.append(character);
}
System.out.println(sb.toString());
