Example 1: php artisan serve

The full command works like this:

php artisan serve --host=<host IP address> --port=<port to use>

php artisan serve --host=127.0.0.1 --port=8080

Example 2: laravel create project

// To install and use a specific version, you can enter it at the end of the command.
// For example using version 5.8 ==>
composer create-project --prefer-dist laravel/laravel projectName "5.8.*"

Example 3: run laravel project from github

Clone your project
Go to the folder application using cd command on your cmd or terminal
Run composer install on your cmd or terminal
Copy .env.example file to .env on the root folder. You can type copy .env.example .env if using command prompt Windows or cp .env.example .env if using terminal, Ubuntu
Open your .env file and change the database name (DB_DATABASE) to whatever you have, username (DB_USERNAME) and password (DB_PASSWORD) field correspond to your configuration.
By default, the username is root and you can leave the password field empty. (This is for Xampp)
By default, the username is root and password is also root. (This is for Lamp)
Run php artisan key:generate
Run php artisan migrate
Run php artisan serve
Go to localhost:8000

Example 4: how to run laravel project

Create a database locally named homestead utf8_general_ci
    Download composer https://getcomposer.org/download/
    Pull Laravel/php project from git provider.
    Rename .env.example file to .envinside your project root and fill the database information. (windows wont let you do it, so you have to open your console cd your project root directory and run mv .env.example .env )
    Open the console and cd your project root directory
    Run composer install or php composer.phar install
    Run php artisan key:generate
    Run php artisan migrate
    Run php artisan db:seed to run seeders, if any.
    Run php artisan serve

You can create project by 2 ways:

First is installing it without defining version:
composer create-project laravel/laravel yourProjectName

Secondly you can install by defining version:
composer create-project laravel/laravel="VersionOfYourChoice" yourProjectName
