Example 1: how to insert in vim and save

vim filename #open file in vim
//To insert text press i and you can start editing
//Press Esc key and type :wq to save a file AND exit
//Press Esc key and type :w to save WITHOUT exiting

Example 2: exiting vim

Press Esc key: This is very important, because you must exit the edit mode first before typing the exit command(s). Next, you can type one of the following commands:
:q (yes, the colon is included in the command) – This will quit the editor
:q! – Quit Vim without saving the data file
:wq – Save the file and exit Vim
And then press the Enter key

Example 3: how to save any changes in vi editor

#save changes in vi editor

by press i you can `Insert` anything. After finshing changes then press :(colon)
and type wq!

syntex : wq!

Explanation : The ex mode is an extension of command mode. To get into it,
press Esc and then : (the colon).
The cursor will go to the bottom of the screen at a colon prompt.
Write your file by entering :w and quit by entering :q.
You can combine these to save and exit by entering :wq.
However, if you're finished with your file, it's generally more convenient to type Shift-z-z from command mode.

// Save & exit
:wp

Example 5: vim save file

// Save a new file (if you have entered vim without first creating a file)
